CRM STANDARD

Simulator Integration Protocol

A structured framework for integrating CRM Standard into your existing simulator training cycle.

Version 1.0 — crmstandard.aero

CRM Standard is not a replacement for simulator-based CRM training. It is a preparation and measurement layer that plugs into your existing recurrent training cycle. This protocol defines how to use CRM Standard in three phases: before the simulator session, during the debrief, and after the session. No changes to your existing programme are required.

How it works

72h

Before

72 hours before the simulator

The pilot completes the relevant CRM Standard scenario on any device. Their decision pattern is recorded. The training captain receives a summary showing which decision points the pilot got right, which they missed, and where the timer expired.

During

In the simulator debrief

The training captain uses the pilot's CRM Standard decision map as a debrief reference. If the pilot deferred on authority gradient before the sim, the training captain watches for that pattern in the exercise and references it by name in the debrief.

After

After the simulator session

The pilot runs the same scenario again. The Progress page shows whether their decision pattern improved. The training captain can compare pre and post results. Improvement is documented.

How to use CRM Standard results in your debrief

  1. 1

Before the sim session, open the pilot's Progress page or review their exported Debrief Report. Identify which decision points they missed and which CRM concepts were involved.

  2. 2

During the simulator exercise, watch specifically for the failure modes identified in their CRM Standard session. Authority gradient failure before the sim predicts deference behaviour in the sim — look for it.

  3. 3

In the debrief, reference the CRM Standard decision map explicitly. 'In the scenario you deferred at the TOGA override. I saw the same pattern in the go-around exercise. Let's talk about what happened at that moment.' The pilot arrives already primed on the concept.

  4. 4

After the session, ask the pilot to run the scenario again within 48 hours. The Progress page will show whether the simulator session improved their decision pattern. This is your outcome measurement.

  5. 5

Export the pre-sim and post-sim Debrief Reports and retain them in the pilot's training file as evidence of CRM scenario engagement and improvement tracking.

Regulatory alignment

This protocol supports compliance with EASA Part-ORO.FC.115 (CRM training) and ORO.FC.230 (recurrent training and checking) by providing structured pre-simulator scenario engagement, documented decision pattern data, and post-session improvement measurement. CRM Standard does not replace approved training or checking activities. It supports and documents the preparation and awareness component of your CRM training programme.

Getting started

  • Identify which simulator exercises in your next recurrent cycle map to the active scenarios (001-003). Use the table above.
  • Brief your pilots 72 hours before each session to complete the relevant scenario at crmstandard.aero.
  • Download the pilot's Debrief Report before the simulator session and use it as your debrief reference.
